Oberallgäu - The district of Oberallgäu wants to make further progress with local climate protection.

The district council is expected to provide the necessary funds in the 2022 budget.

Thorsten Metke, the district's new climate protection officer, outlined the package of measures for the coming years at the most recent committee meeting and indicated that the “triangle” of mobility, energy and communication must be “holistically exploited”.

The range of activities extends from the current information campaign on the turnaround of heat, to the continuation of the solar offensive in the district, to the further development of the energy alliance and the expansion of previous activities.

Municipalities and companies should be on board as well as private households.

Lots of old heating systems

"Progress is only possible with the municipalities," says Thorsten Metke.

District Councilor Hugo Wirthensohn (Free Voters) recalled the heat register.

There are still many old heating systems in the old buildings in many town centers.

One must work towards regenerative possibilities, such as photovoltaics or modern wood firing.

The initiatives are intended to show the possible energy and savings potential.

A demo photovoltaic system is to be sent out to convey benefits for private households.

According to the climate protection officer, resistance to wind turbines must also be reduced.

That means, however, admits Metke: "Drill thick boards." In general, information and communication are essential elements of all actions and campaigns.

No money for "HyAllgäu hydrogen region"

Successful campaigns such as “city cycling” should be developed into a larger regional event in cooperation with the city of Kempten, Metke continues.

According to the committee, the district council should plan the costs for the implementation of further activities in the district budget for the year 2022 in addition to the funds already set for ongoing measures.

So the bottom line is 115,000 euros.

On the other hand, the budget plan provides for a reduction in expenditure, for example for the “HyAllgäu Hydrogen Region” project or for qualified construction supervision.

Both are no longer supported for the time being.
