The responsibility of those who oppose the vaccination
The Christmas season as we know it
will probably not happen again
in
Germany and Austria
.
The
corona winter is coming
, part 2: people
are
dying again, the
clinics are completely overloaded
, nurses are working at the limit.
Children and teenagers do not have a normal childhood.
Many companies are in danger of crashing.
Sure, one can rightly complain about the
tactics and dodging
of politics. The main to blame for this disaster, however, are those who refused to vaccinate. The chaos is mainly a result of their
ignorance and stubbornness
. It has to be said so clearly. They could have been vaccinated long ago, but they didn't. They play the lottery with their health and put everyone else in danger.
The tough decisions are therefore now made almost every hour. In the coronavirus pandemic, Bavaria is imposing a
lockdown
for the unvaccinated and in
hotspots
even for all citizens
from next week
. A maximum of five unvaccinated people from two households should then still meet. Areas at particular risk will be closed completely - including
bars, clubs and discos. All Christmas markets are also closed.
A lockdown also applies in Austria from Monday - for all citizens until December 13th.
The home may only be left for compelling reasons.
This includes
going to work, shopping for daily needs, going to the pharmacy or the doctor
, as well as being outdoors to relax.
In addition,
vaccination is mandatory
in Austria from February onwards
.
It is the only way out of the crisis
, sooner or later vaccination will be mandatory everywhere, including in Germany.
The vaccination opponents will not give politicians a choice, because it turns out that there is no other way to contain this crisis.
From now on, only a
zero tolerance policy for unvaccinated people will
help
.
The warnings of a division in society have become obsolete.
It is no longer a question of division, but of the fact that a society in which a minority dictates to the majority over the long term how to live does not work.

A success for the Democrats
It all takes a while, but
US President Joe Biden
is
getting closer and closer to
his goal of
adopting
his gigantic
economic and social package “Build back better”
by the end of the year
. At the mediation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives,
Nancy Pelosi
, the party left has given up their resistance. In the
vote in the House of Representatives
Now procured Biden a majority. They had previously blocked the package for weeks because Biden's plans did not go far enough for them at first.
The president now has to take the last hurdle
.
A vote is also pending in the Senate.
Biden has promised the left that he will ensure a majority there.
But it is still unclear whether all Democratic senators will really vote.
Especially the stubborn head from West Virginia,
Joe Manchin
, sends different signals.
Sometimes he indicates his approval, then again he is skeptical.
Should Biden get a decision in the Senate by the end of the year, it would undoubtedly be a success for him.
From next year, more than
$ 1.7 trillion
in government money
would
flow into social systems, childcare and education, among other things.
New investments are also planned for climate protection.

The business of the Kabila clan
It is one of those stories that leaves you speechless: While many people in the
Democratic Republic of the Congo
live in deep poverty, the clan of the former president,
Joseph Kabila
, has made massive use of the state treasury for years.
This is shown by research by SPIEGEL and its international partners from the European Investigative Collaborations (EIC) network in the joint project "Congo Hold-up".
The research is based on the largest data leak in the history of Africa. 100 journalists from 18 countries evaluated 3.5 million documents in the course of their research, including details of
millions of transactions by the Gabon-based bank BGFI
. The stories from the research project "Congo Hold-Up", in which 19 international media and five NGOs participated, will be published in the coming weeks.
The documents show, among other things, that members of the Kabila family and their confidants
siphoned off at least $ 138 million in public funds
between 2013 and 2018
. Members of the clan mostly availed themselves of the country's central bank. But they also killed the
state mining company for millions
; as well as the national road construction fund, the country's electoral commission and other institutions.
The Congolese branch of the BGFI-Bank, the BGFI RDC, and the letterbox company Sud Oil were of central importance.
Joseph Kabila's
younger sister
held two fifths of the shares in BGFI RDC.
His adoptive brother was the managing director of the bank.
Dozens of millions of public funds flowed through the BGFI RDC to a network of companies around Sud Oil.
Joseph Kabila was
President of
the Democratic Republic of the Congo for
18 years
.
When his last term in office came to an end, Kabila refused to leave his post for two years.
At the beginning of 2019, he resigned at the insistence of both at home and abroad.
Now we know what else he was up to during this time.
A bank, a mailbox company and a robbery: How the Kabila clan plundered Congo's treasury
Winner of the day ...
... are the
European friends
from Italy. The Vice President of the regional government in
Lombardy
,
Letizia Moratti
, has offered Germany the recordings of seriously ill Covid patients. The German hospitals are in a dramatic emergency, the intensive care units are on the
verge of collapse
, Moratti wrote, according to reports on Facebook. After Germany's assistance to Lombardy in the spring of 2020, she considers it “appropriate and necessary to offer Germany today to admit
patients in our hospitals
and provide beds in our wards and intensive care units”.
It's a nice gesture.
Incidentally, Italy currently has relatively few Covid problems.
Almost 80 percent of Italians were vaccinated at least once, almost ten percent more than in Germany and Austria.
