Sobbing in court: Kyle Rittenhouse, the boy who killed two people in the Wisconsin riots, wins murder (Reuters)

The jury's decision to acquit the boy Kyle Rittenhouse killed two U.S. party protesters, and it led to demonstrations on the one hand, and expressions of support on the other.

The 18-year-old Rittenhouse was acquitted yesterday by a Wisconsin jury of murder and other offenses, for which he was prosecuted after shooting two protesters during riots in the town of Knosha in August last year.

The jury accepted the defense's contention that it was "self-defense."

After the jury's decision yesterday, Retinhaus smiled when he told the conservative Fox News network from his car that he was relieved at the end of his "tough journey."

"The jury made the right decision - self-defense is not illegal," the boy told the network, ahead of a comprehensive interview that will air on Monday and a documentary that will be released next month.

"I'm glad everything went well, we went through the difficult stage," said the boy, who survived a life sentence if convicted of murder.

He is acquitted of all five counts in which he was charged, after four days of hearings by a jury required to make a unanimous decision.

Retinhaus has arrived in Kenosha, Wisconsin from the neighboring state of Illinois, where he lives, following riots that erupted in the city after the arrest of Jacob Blake, a black man who was left paralyzed after being shot in the back.

It was only about three months after the assassination of George Floyd in Minneapolis, and the riots in Kenosha also caught the attention of presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

While Trump issued a statement in support of Britannhaus, Biden expressed his anger at the jury's decision - but stressed that it should be accepted.

"The decision in Kanusha will leave many Americans angry and worried, including me, but we must acknowledge that the jury has had its say," the Democratic president said.

"I urge everyone to express their views peacefully, in accordance with the rule of law."

"Tough Journey."

During the two-week trial, Rittenhaus testified that he shot two people and wounded another person in his semi-automatic AR-15 rifle in self-defense, after he was allegedly attacked by rioters. He said he came to the city to protect businesses from looters and to provide medical assistance, but the prosecution claimed he caused the incident during a chaotic night in the city.

The reaction to the outcome of the trial reflects the deep-seated controversy in the United States over the right to bear arms, and where does the boundary of that right protected by the Constitution pass. An editorial in the Wisconsin State Journal states that the decision is "disappointing" and that it will "strengthen the hands of gunmen seeking to take the law into their own hands." However, the paper stressed that further violence in response to the acquittal "will not help anyone".

Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online.

The Weapons of America organization called him a "fighter for gun owners and self-defense," and promised to "reward him" with another rifle like the one he used during the events in Knusha.

On the other hand, Shannon Watts, the founder of the organization "Mothers Demand Action," attacked the jury's decision.

"If a teenager can move between countries to get to an unrelated demonstration, shoot three people, kill two and not bear the consequences, it's a distortion of justice and an indictment against our criminal justice system."
