Who is allowed to join this year and who is not?

There is still no clarity about this with the operators of the ski lifts.

The Alpenplus partners only issue season tickets against 2G proof.

Bayrischzell / Schliersee / Tegernsee

- "We currently have to assume the 2G rule," says Antonia Asenstorfer, spokeswoman for the Alpenplus areas, which also include the Sudelfeld in Bayrischzell and the Spitzingsee-Tegernsee ski area.

Means: A lift ticket is only given to those who can present proof at the ticket booth that they have been fully vaccinated or have recovered.

Special sticking point: From January 1st, children from the age of twelve could also be affected by the regulation - at the moment, students still have an exemption for exercising sporting activities.

Which rule applies to students from twelve?

Insecurity is the biggest problem

In the eyes of Egid Stadler, the managing director of Bergbahnen Sudelfeld, one of the biggest problems is the uncertainty of how things will go on with pupils from the age of twelve.

He knows of many parents who don't want their children to be vaccinated - families like that don't buy a card and prefer to forego board fun.

"I hope that there will still be a solution," says Stadler.

Extended deadline: Season tickets are available until December 10th at the advance booking price

Actually, the managing director believes, after the total breakdown last season, people “really want to go skiing this year”. But the constantly changing Corona requirements are not only causing great uncertainty among lift operators, but also among customers. Buy a season ticket or would you prefer to wait? This question is currently being asked by many local families. The Alpenplus partners want to take this into account. According to Asenstorfer, they have therefore extended the period within which the passes are available at discounted pre-sale prices to December 10th. The ski resorts have also retained the repayment promise, which comes into force if the lifts are not allowed to open for a whole month due to a pandemic. What is new, however, is that season tickets are now only available on presentation of 2G proof.

The view of the Alpenplus lift operator goes in the direction of the Zugspitze

Both Stadler and Asenstorfer are hoping for specific statements from politicians and authorities about what the rules for ski operations will actually look like in the end.

"We have made it clear through our association that we need reliable regulations," explains the press spokeswoman.

The Zugspitz region started the new ski season on Friday under 2G conditions and with a mask requirement in the lift.

The local lift operators are watching what is happening there with interest.

"We are sure that the ski operation can function under the specifications," says Asenstorfer.

Perhaps the Zugspitze could serve as a “best practice example” here.

Alpenplus spokeswoman: Another lockdown would be a "disaster"

A complete lockdown, as experienced by the lift operators last winter, would be a "catastrophe" according to the spokeswoman.

"And it would be difficult for all of us to understand," she says.

Artificial snow-making is slated to begin next week

From a purely organizational point of view, the vague prospects pose a “very difficult situation” for the ski areas, as Stadler says.

Hiring staff, preparing the slopes, making snow - all of this has to be started now.

“We are burned here,” explains Stadler.

After all, a lot of money was wasted last winter.

Nevertheless, preparations for the ski season will start as usual shortly.

In the middle or at the end of next week, temperatures should drop so far that Stadler would like to start making snow.
