Damascus-SANA

The literature of war among Arabs, in its ancient and modern eras, was the focus of the literary and intellectual symposium held by the Poetry Association in the Arab Writers Union, and it included critical readings and poetic texts.

Researcher and journalist Deeb Ali Hassan opened the symposium by pointing out that the war since ancient times has enriched the poet's language and provided him with images and vocabulary. Therefore, we see in the poems of pre-Islamic poets a description of the raid, the hero, the camels, weapons, equipment, the army, the battalion, the battle, the beating, the stabbing, the throwing, and so on.

The war also left its aftermath, according to Hassan on the language in terms of generosity and durability, and the names of the war machines that were used at the time, in addition to the description of everything on the battlefield.

Moving to the modern era, researcher Najda Zuraiqah found that the cultural institution in Syria, since the establishment of the corrective movement, has dealt with literature seriously in terms of mobilizing public opinion to defend the homeland and its major issues, believing that the pen is a soldier’s companion in battle.

The poet Samar Taghbi recited a poem in which she addressed the poet Nizar Qabbani, using the two-part style she used to talk about love of the homeland and attachment to Damascus, choosing the letter “lam” at the end of her poetic verses. Before.. she shivered from her longing kisses.”

As for the poet Ghaleb Jazia, he recited a poem entitled Tishreen in which he described the heroism of the October liberation war and the glad tidings that illuminated it in the style of the two halves, using the full sea to express with sincere emotion what is going on in himself. He said, “October accept and wishes are in my hand.. and on the eyelids flashes of rejoicing and victory bloomed in the hills and in the Lord.. With your determination, you make fates.”

The head of the Arab Writers Union, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hourani, considered that the wars that the Arabs fought through their ages and the Syrians’ defense of their homeland in the face of invasions were the instigators of great poems that became like beacons from which we draw inspiration from the meanings of sacrifice and struggle.

The symposium was attended by members of the Executive Office of the Writers Union and a number of Syrian and Iraqi writers, poets and intellectuals.
