The lockdown in Austria is supposed to last three weeks, and for the fourth time the government is trying to shut down the country in this way and get the pandemic under control.

The health authorities registered around 14,000 new corona infections on Sunday within 24 hours, and according to official information, the seven-day incidence climbed to 1,085 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants.

The situation is also worsening in the intensive care units, currently (as of November 21, 2021) 528 corona patients are being cared for there.

That is not far from the maximum value of the third wave of 611 patients.

But unlike in the third wave, two out of three Austrians are currently fully vaccinated.

The hard lockdown is now set to break the fourth wave in Austria. From Monday, November 22nd, people will only be allowed to leave their homes for a valid reason. Going to work, shopping for daily needs or being outdoors for relaxation are permitted. Most shops have to close during the lockdown, and pubs are only allowed to offer take-away food. Schools remain open while cultural activities are inactive. Parents can therefore decide for themselves whether they want to send their children to school or look after them at home. But there are also some restrictions for tourists. Hotels will close, and ski lifts and museums will also be affected by the lockdown.

The lockdown is expected to end for everyone on December 13th.
