Five policemen were injured and at least 40 people were arrested in three Dutch provinces during protests against restrictions imposed on citizens in the fight against the Corona virus in the country.
Reuters quoted the Dutch authorities as saying in a statement that three people were taken to hospital after being shot by police.
Police in the city of The Hague, which includes the headquarters of the International Criminal Court, clashed with groups of demonstrators who threw stones and various objects at them in a popular neighborhood.
The protests continued for the second night in a row, during which the Dutch authorities used water cannons, dogs and mounted police to stop the youths who set fires and threw fireworks in the worst disturbances since the imposition of a complete closure led to spreading chaos and the arrest of more than 500 people last January.
The latest unrest began on Friday night in Rotterdam, due to the government's refusal to restrict the use of the health passport for those recovering from the Corona virus and those who had received the vaccination, except for those who had a negative test result.
The Netherlands re-imposed some general isolation measures last week, for an initial period of three weeks, to slow the re-emergence of the virus, but daily infections have remained at their highest levels since the beginning of the pandemic.
