The dispute about the expansion plans of the company ELA Container GmbH in Pfrombach has been simmering for years.

The referendum should bring a decision on Sunday.

But this failed because of the necessary votes.

Moosburg

- The result of the referendum on Sunday in Moosburg was not long in coming: The question of whether all municipal planning should be stopped that serve to designate the "Containerbau ELA" industrial park in Pfrombach was 67.4 percent and thus mostly answered with “yes”, but the necessary quorum was not achieved, as the city of Moosburg announced early on Sunday evening.

Review: The ELA company would like to expand its approximately 2.5 hectare site in the Moosburg district of Pfrombach by 2.4 hectares.

Office and hall buildings as well as storage and traffic areas for the containers are planned there.

In addition, compensation and biotope areas are to be created.

But from the beginning there was massive resistance to the project.

This culminated in a referendum on Sunday.

The question was: “Are you in favor of stopping all municipal plans that serve to designate the 'Containerbau ELA' industrial park in Pfrombach?” The citizens had the opportunity to cast their vote until 6:00 pm.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

A total of 13,873 citizens were asked to vote in the referendum - only 2,833 citizens (20.42 percent) exercised their rights.

On the 2825 valid ballot papers, the cross was set to “yes” in 1904 (67.40 percent), 921 (32.60 percent) times to no.

Even if the majority would like to stop the project: The quorum, i.e. the number of votes that must be achieved for an election or vote to be valid, has not been achieved.

"The required voting quorum of 20 out of a hundred of those entitled to vote (2775) was not reached, so that the referendum was not finally decided," said the city.

"The referendum has not been decided."
