President Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Michal paid an official visit to Britain today (Sunday), three days after the announcement of a change in British policy toward Hamas and the intention to declare it an organization.
During the visit, Herzog will meet with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, the British Foreign Secretary and MPs, and he is expected to express his support and appreciation for Israel's change in policy towards Hamas, which is due to reach parliamentary approval this week.
To this day, Britain has distinguished between the political and military arm of Hamas and referred only to the military.
During the visit Herzog will also meet with the British regent, Prince Charles, at his home.
In addition to the policy meetings, Herzog is expected to meet with leaders of the Jewish community in Britain, attend a tribute event marking the anniversary of the death of Rabbi Lord Jonathan Zacks and visit an exhibition at Chelsea Stadium commemorating the Jewish athletes murdered in the Holocaust.

Herzog said ahead of his visit that "while Britain is building a new and independent role in the world, Israel is one of its most loyal allies on the front of innovation and advancement. I look forward to meeting Prime Minister Boris Johnson and MPs and putting on the agenda the ways in which our countries can lead the fight against climate change, the fight against the Iranian nuclear program, national security, cyber security, the fight against anti-Semitism and trade. "I will pay tribute at an event of the Genesis Prize to one of the greatest rabbis and thinkers of recent generations in Britain - the late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Zacks, a British and Jewish giant, a lover of Israel, whose moral leadership is sorely lacking for the Jewish people and all mankind."
