Around four months have passed since the basement of the Rottenbuch sports center was flooded.

While the footballers can use their rooms again, the shooters still look like they are on a construction site.

Dehumidifiers run 24 hours a day.

Rottenbuch

- There were large masses of water that made their way through the basement of the Rottenbuch sports center during the storm on July 25th. They pulled away one door and crawled into every corner. And parts of the building are still not dry. "Two dehumidifiers are still running," says Stefan Strauss, first master rifleman in Rottenbuch. The rifle society was particularly hard hit by the water damage. She uses large parts of the basement, has her changing rooms here, the 50-meter-long small-caliber stand, the lockers.

The neighboring rooms of the TSV footballers were significantly less affected.

There, the dehumidifiers could be dismantled after four and a half weeks, the necessary renovation work has been completed, ball storage and changing rooms for the soccer players can already be used again.

“That was also important to us because the season has started,” says Strauss.

The basement is still damp

Meanwhile, his archers have to be patient.

Air rifle shooting has been possible again on the ground floor for around four weeks.

But nothing works in the basement.

The dehumidifiers have been running without a break since the end of August.

Two of the four devices have now been dismantled.

The contracted company regularly checks whether the building is dry.

Strauss hopes that there will be good news soon, but is skeptical.

In the small caliber stand, it reaches into a crack, underneath is a material that was used to level out unevenness in the ground during construction.

“It's still damp,” says Strauss as he pulls out his hand again.

Originally, costs of around 30,000 euros were calculated for the drying and renovation work.

It is questionable whether that will still be sufficient.

The dehumidifiers alone are now running significantly longer than the calculated four weeks.

The municipal council has decided to pay for the work for the time being.

She is the owner of the building, shooters and soccer players are tenants.

Once the amount of the actual costs has been determined, “it will be discussed how and in what form the clubs will or can participate,” says Strauss.

The aim is to do as much as possible on your own.

"Fortunately we have a lot of craftsmen in the club."

Insurance does not work

In any case, insurance does not apply in the event of damage - neither the municipality nor the shooting club had taken out appropriate protection.

“We'll have to discuss whether we'll need insurance in the future,” says Strauss.

Several members also had to complain about damage from the large amount of water in the building - to their rifle clothing and also to weapons that were stored in the rifle shelter.

Strauss advised them to clarify with their home insurance company whether this would apply in the case.

“I know from one family that it worked.” She was reimbursed for the damage.

Otherwise, everyone can currently only wait and see when the major renovation in the basement begins. “As long as the devices are running, we don't do anything,” says Strauss. At least it won't get started, but there are already plans. The small room that overflowed with water over the light shaft and the door of which broke out is to be redesigned. The shooters are planning a wall breakthrough, wanting to enlarge the women's locker room with it. And since the cladding of the ceiling and walls had to be torn down in the small-caliber shooting range anyway, the shooters want to replace the filter mats right away. "We have wanted to do that for a long time."

Strauss hopes that the rooms and especially the 50-meter shooting range can be used again by March.

Then the club wants to organize the gaume championship with room nozzles and small caliber.

Everything is done by then, but by no means.

“We won't be working on the outdoor area until spring.” So far, wood and a temporary wall have protected the building from surface water.

A permanent - and beautiful - solution is still needed.
