The statistics come from the World Bank, which records these remittances every year, "remittances" in English. The study calculates for each country the funds it receives from its own emigrants and those it issues, remittances from immigrants living in its territory. These transfers received a strange publicity recently, when Arnaud Montebourg, presidential candidate, suggested blocking them against North African countries refusing to repatriate their nationals targeted by an expulsion measure in France.
