Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexander Gribkin announced that the increase in hotbeds of military and political instability near Russia's borders threatens the possibility of terrorists infiltrating its territory.
In a statement to the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta today, Gribkin indicated that terrorists in Afghanistan can infiltrate the countries of the Central Asian region and from there to Russia across the border with Kazakhstan.
"We are closely following the tense situation in Afghanistan with the arrival of the Taliban, and unfortunately the situation is not optimistic," Gribkin added.
He pointed out the need to take new effective measures to enhance security on the Russian borders, which was discussed in the previous meeting of the Russian Security Council.
