Khartoum-Sana

The head of the Transitional Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Abdullah Hamdok, the dismissed prime minister, signed an agreement today in an attempt to end the political crisis in the country.

According to the Sudanese News Agency, under the agreement signed at the Republican Palace in the capital, Al-Burhan canceled his previous decision to relieve Hamdok from the position of Prime Minister, and the need to amend the constitutional document was emphasized by consensus in order to achieve and ensure comprehensive political participation for all components of society, except for the dissolved National Congress Party.

The two parties indicated that the existing transitional partnership between civilians and the military is the guarantor and the way to the stability and security of Sudan. Accordingly, it was agreed to implement the partnership in a spirit and confidence with full commitment to the formation of a civilian government of independent national competencies, and that the Transitional Sovereignty Council would be supervising the implementation of the tasks of the transitional period contained in Article 8 From the constitutional document without direct interference in the executive work, with an emphasis on ensuring the transition of the transitional authority on time, at the end of the transitional period in July 2023.

The agreement stressed that the administration of the transitional period would be based on a political declaration that defines the framework for partnership between the national political and civil forces, the military component, the civil administration and the resistance committees, in addition to releasing all political detainees.

The agreement called for the urgent completion of all institutions of transitional governance by forming the Legislative Council and the Constitutional Court and appointing the Chief Justice and the Attorney General, while the commissions and other transitional institutions will be formed and carry out their tasks immediately according to specific timetables.

It was also agreed on an expanded and transparent dialogue between all political and societal forces and the forces of the live revolution that would establish the constitutional conference.

It is noteworthy that Sudan is witnessing a political crisis that began on the 25th of last month after the dismissal of Hamdok's government, the declaration of a state of emergency in the country, and the formation of a new Sovereign Council from which many members representing political and party forces were excluded.
