Al-Hasakah-SANA
The Directorate of Agriculture in Al-Hasakah indicated that the total area planted with wheat and barley crops to date has approached 50,000 hectares, distributed over 9450 hectares of irrigated wheat, 17350 hectares of irrigated wheat, 4850 hectares of irrigated barley and 17850 hectares of rainfed barley distributed in different areas of agricultural stability.
The head of the Plant Production Department in the Directorate of Agriculture, Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the rains that fell during the past two days throughout the governorate encouraged farmers to grow wheat and barley crops, especially for rainfed areas.
Bilal indicated that the highest amount of precipitation that the governorate witnessed during the two days was in the Tel Brak area, which amounted to 13 mm, while it reached 10 mm in Hasaka and the rest of the areas between 4 and 6 mm.
It is noteworthy that the lack of rainfall since the beginning of the current winter agricultural season has reduced the rate of implementation of wheat and barley crops in Al-Hasakah Governorate, in light of the farmers' fear of a recurrence of the drought during the last season.
