An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted the Kermadec Islands in the Pacific Northeast of New Zealand today.
The quake struck at a depth of ten kilometers, and its epicenter was initially determined at 29.3954 degrees south latitude and 176.8842 degrees west longitude, the Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted the US Geological Research Center as saying.
There were no reports of casualties or fears of tsunami waves.
