In the fight against the worsening corona pandemic, Thuringia's Vice-Prime Minister Georg Maier (SPD) has spoken out in favor of considering a 2G regulation in retail as in Saxony.

“You have to consider that,” Maier told the German Press Agency on Sunday.

The Saxon state government announced stricter corona measures on Friday, which amount to a partial lockdown.

Erfurt - This also includes a 2G regulation for retail.

2G means that only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered have access.

Exceptions are planned for supermarkets, drug stores and other shops, among others.

"We have to expect that more people who have not been vaccinated will come to Thuringia to go shopping," said Maier.

That is a huge problem.

Maier emphasized at the same time that there had to be exceptions for shops for daily needs.

So far, 2G was not planned for retail in Thuringia.

But Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) had already agreed to stricter rules for Thuringia on Friday and promised that they want to check the applicability of the stricter Saxon rules in the Free State.

Maier said that there are good arguments for doing this with a view to the similarly worrying corona situation in Thuringia and Saxony.

“It's a bit worse in Saxony, but we're not far from it,” said Maier.
