Farmers of the Al-Ghab area in Hama governorate have finished harvesting the tobacco crop for the current agricultural season.
Abd al-Rahman Badi’ Fadl, head of the Tobacco Cultivation Division in the Al-Ghab region, told SANA reporter that the current season’s production amounted to about 1734 tons, including 1504 tons and 150 kg of Virginia variety, 237 tons and 500 kg of Berli production, pointing out that 4 committees were identified to receive the tobacco crop in each of Tremseh. Shata, Ain El-Krum and Salhab, with the possibility of increasing them with the start of deliveries.
He pointed out that tobacco cultivation has witnessed a significant expansion in recent years, especially that the cultivated area has reached 10,000 dunums during the current season, indicating that its cultivation is concentrated in Freekeh, Shataha, Salhab, Ain al-Krum, Asharnah and Nahr al-Bared.
