The executive federal government under Angela Merkel (CDU) had previously categorically ruled out compulsory vaccinations for everyone.

In view of the ongoing corona pandemic, however, Schleswig-Holstein’s Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) is the second prominent voice in the Union for such a step.

He still hopes »that in the end it will work without a general vaccination requirement.

If not, I'm ready to take this step, ”said Günther in an interview with“ Die Welt ”.

"Our country must not be permanently dominated by this pandemic." Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had previously said that he did not know whether you could get by permanently without a general vaccination requirement.

The compulsory vaccination is controversial in Germany.

The grand coalition of the Union and SPD had ruled them out so far, and the traffic light coalitionists are also against it.

However, the SPD, the Greens and the FDP have agreed on an area-specific vaccination requirement for hospitals, the nursing service and old people's homes.

Majority of Germans for compulsory vaccination

With the impression of the rapidly increasing number of infections, there are now increasing voices to extend the rule to all citizens.

According to a representative survey, the majority of Germans are in favor of compulsory vaccination for everyone.

The politicians will have to take care of the unvaccinated even more intensively, says Günther.

"We have to put even more pressure on here."

Günther also clearly rejected a general lockdown: “We are now in a phase of the pandemic in which it is no longer a matter of protecting anyone who has not been vaccinated against infection.

Everyone can be protected - with a vaccination.

That is the difference to the situation a year ago.

And that's why we have to deal with the restrictions in a more differentiated manner.

In my opinion, a blanket lockdown is not an appropriate measure. "

Günther against general shutdown in winter

The Christian Democrat also warned the federal and state governments of excessive and thus counterproductive corona rules: »Our finding from last winter is that the infection rate in private and therefore inevitably less regulated areas is significantly higher than in public, regulated places.

We must therefore avoid general closings. "

Events and gastronomy visits should also be possible when the number of infections increases.

“We have to give people the opportunity to be where there are rules.

Where masks and tests are compulsory, where vaccination cards can also be checked. "

For Schleswig-Holstein, the Christmas markets should remain open, if possible under 2G conditions.

According to Günther, there will also not be a ban on accommodation this winter.

There is no legal way of doing this.
