The Internal Security Committee toured the Negev: "Law as a fencing should be the law of Tel Aviv"

The committee's chairman, MK Ben-Ari, said it would back up police activity in the area.

According to the commander of the Negev region, the police, even when they succeed in bringing convictions, some of the prisoners are released shortly after as part of plea bargains.

The tour took place against the backdrop of the unusual brawl at Soroka Hospital last week

Members of the Knesset's Internal Security Committee today (Sunday) held a tour of the Negev during which they reviewed the civil and criminal issues concerning the residents of the Bedouin diaspora.

The committee's chairman, MK Meirav Ben-Ari (Yash Atid), said that she and her friends would back up the police in their actions in the area.

"The conduct in the Negev affects the entire country," she said, referring to crime in the Bedouin sector.

"We can not go into despair. We need to bring news. We must stop what is happening in the Negev. The law of Saifa should be the law of Tel Aviv."

The tour came after the unusual incident that occurred last week at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva.

During which, among other things, shots were fired and two people were stabbed.

19 suspects were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the riots, which occurred as a result of a conflict between two families.

The commander of the Negev region in the police, Lt. Gen. Nachshon Nagler, shared the frustration with the State Attorney's Office and the justice system. He said that even after they managed to get convictions, some of the prisoners were released shortly afterwards as part of plea bargains. "We come across a prosecution that wants 100% success, and so some cases do not get to court," he said. "Sometimes, when you get to court, it takes a long time. The wheels of justice grind slowly."

"This money finances the crime and crime in the Negev," he said. "We catch a lot of smuggling, but we do not get to all the places. Once engaged in drug trafficking, weapons are needed to protect the goods. From Jordan there are many smuggles of weapons, many of which we locate. We also see this in Judea and Samaria, and hundreds of thousands of bullets are stolen from IDF bases in the Negev. This year we seized much more weapons than last year. "

MK Meir Yitzhak Halevi (New Hope) said he was frustrated by the tour.

"We are engaged in a discussion between the wise and the just," he said.

"Both tracks need to be addressed - on the one hand uncompromising enforcement, and on the other hand education, employment and quality of life. A headquarters needs to be established - for both enforcement and long-term quality of life. There is aggravation here."

MK Orit Struck (Religious Zionism) welcomed the government's decision to establish four new settlements in the Negev, and suggested that the committee hold a dialogue with court judges in order to assist with issues raised by Nachshon.

"The mission now is to stop the galloping horse," she said.

"It is impossible to stop the horse without the judges. The committee should have a dialogue with the judges."

"The population in the Negev has grown," the area commander added.

"We need a bigger and stronger police force with more extensive powers. The proposal is basically around the punishment in front of the offender, not just the enforcement. We need to make sure the punishments are deterrent."
