The Committee for the Selection of Military Judges, headed by Defense Minister Bnei Gantz, today (Sunday) elected Brigadier General Orly Markman as President of the Military Court of Appeals. Markman will be promoted to the rank of major general and thus become the third woman in the history of the IDF to the rank of major general, and the second in the current General Staff forum. The committee also elected Colonel Maya Goldschmidt as a judge of the Military Court of Appeals.



Defense Minister Ganz said at the time of the announcement: We will continue to promote women in all positions, including in the IDF - in the first place because this is a first-rate security need that improves the quality of the IDF and increases the supply of quality manpower available to it. "



Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi added that "Orly will be the third champion in the IDF, thus for the first time the General Staff Forum will include two champions - a significant and important achievement. . "

Orly Markman, has served as Vice President of the Military Court of Appeals, and has previously held a number of positions in the Military Courts Unit, including chairing district military courts and the Special Court.

Markman holds a master's degree from Tel Aviv University, is married to Gilad and a mother of four.

In her role, she will replace Champion Doron Piles who has served in this position for the past five years.

Her appointment will take place in the presence of the President of the State at a date to be determined later.



Colonel Maya Goldschmidt, was appointed a judge in the District Military Court in 2009, and from 2019 as the President of the Southern District Military Court and the Land Arm.

Also today, the ranks of champion were also awarded to Michel Janko and Saar Tzur.

General Janko will take over the position of head of the Technology and Logistics Division and General Tzur will take up the position of commander of the Northern Maneuvering Division and the Northern Brigade.

The graduation ceremony was held tonight at the Ben-Gurion House, in the Rabin camp.
