The vaccine picking rate is particularly high in Bavaria and there is a lockdown in parts of the country. FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki has now sharply criticized Prime Minister Söder's crisis management.

Bavaria is one of the federal states with the lowest vaccination rate, and the number of new corona infections in the Free State has been rising rapidly for weeks.

Now the deputy FDP federal chairman Wolfgang Kubicki has accused Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) of errors in corona management.

Hundreds of deaths in these countries are the result of political negligence, said Kubicki on Sunday at an FDP state party conference in Neumünster, Schleswig-Holstein.

Söder puts his own career ambitions before protecting the population: "That is characterless and humanly pathetic."

On Friday, Söder announced that public life was to be shut down in large areas in corona hotspots with a seven-day incidence of more than 1000.

There should be a "de facto lockdown" for unvaccinated people in Bavaria, this will be achieved through the nationwide 2G rule.

There will also be contact restrictions for unvaccinated people.

These can meet with a maximum of five people from two households.

Kubicki warned of a social split.

"Everyone only fights for himself," said the FDP politician.

As an example, he cited an incident with the chairman of the World Medical Association, Frank Ulrich Montgomery.

Last week, Montgomery had sharply criticized the FDP's stance on corona issues.

Anyone who, like the liberals, suspects mandatory vaccination "through the back door" with 2G rules and rejects more rights for those who have been vaccinated, is serving "a primitive populism" and "does not understand the concept of freedom correctly".

A vaccination benefits not only those who are vaccinated, but also society as a whole, stressed Montgomery.

Most recently, Kubicki defended his party's corona rate in SPIEGEL. Together with the traffic light parties, the FDP has replaced the epidemic emergency with a new infection protection law. "There is an epidemic situation, but the so-called epidemic emergency of national scope is a legal construct that the previous federal government used to authorize the federal and state governments to issue very far-reaching ordinances," said Kubicki. "These serious encroachments on fundamental rights must be ended, Parliament must regain control over the corona policy."

At the same time he resisted the impression that future traffic light partners would downplay the seriousness of the situation: “This is a malicious assumption.

We keep saying that we urgently need to increase the vaccination rate.

None of us questions that the situation is tense. "
