"The entire political and media class should be outraged by Lagarde's remarks on Zemmour"

FIGAROVOX / INTERVIEW - On France Info, Jean-Christophe Lagarde declared, "Mr. Zemmour, if Mr. Pasqua was there, he would shoot you in the head". David Desgouilles believes that Charles Pasqua would be scandalized by the remarks of the president of the UDI with regard to the polemicist.

FIGAROVOX. - "To make fun of the world to the point of saying 'I am an RPR', Mr. Zemmour, if Mr. Pasqua (one of the founders of the RPR, Editor's note) was there, he would give you a bullet in the head," said Jean -Christophe Lagarde on France Info, yesterday. Do the words of the president of the UDI shock you?

These words scandalized me.

I happened to know Charles Pasqua and it is absolutely appalling to have attributed such an intention to him.

Especially since if the former Minister of the Interior had indeed reacted severely to certain writings of Eric Zemmour on the period of the Occupation, he had carefully chosen his terms which did not enter at all in this violent register.

Mr. Lagarde only has to refer to it, but the truth does not seem to be his primary concern.

Knowing the tormented relationship between the centrists and Charles Pasqua, I doubt that the latter would have appreciated that Mr. Lagarde calls on him to call for violence against a writer with whom he had, moreover, courteous and frank relations.

Do we allow ourselves everything with Eric Zemmour on the pretext that he represents a radical right?

Indeed, it is not difficult to imagine the reactions if this sentence had been pronounced about Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Anne Hidalgo or even Emmanuel Macron.

We would have talked about that all weekend.

Admittedly, Eric Zemmour likes the political castagne even claims it.

His response to Jean-Christophe Lagarde also shows that he knows how to bounce back from this kind of aggression committed against him.

But that France Info, whose journalists showed no reaction on the set, waited several hours to dissociate itself from such remarks made on its antenna, that really raises the question.

To read also Gilles-William Goldnadel: "Is it really the extreme right which threatens the freedom of expression?"

Did you find the reactions of the LR Congress candidates to match?

We could observe the anger of Eric Ciotti who did not spare Jean-Christophe Lagarde and even called for the opening of a judicial investigation by the prosecution.

Valérie Pécresse was also severe.

On the other hand, the three other candidates seemed to want to minimize the words of the president of the UDI, putting forward his apologies.

This last reaction doesn't really seem to measure up to me.

The pivotal situation of the UDI between LR and the presidential majority can undoubtedly explain it but it should in no case justify it.
