ANALYSIS - Since the beginning of the year, midwives have taken to the streets several times to demand better recognition.

Good news for hospital midwives.

They will benefit, from February 1, 2022, from a salary increase of 500 euros net monthly, according to a memorandum of understanding signed Monday evening by ministers Véran (Health), Montchalin (Civil service), Taquet (Childhood) and the unions CFDT, FO and Unsa.

This revaluation includes the 183 euros increase in the “Ségur de la santé”, to which are added 78 euros net per month of revaluation of the grids and 240 euros net of medical exercise premium recognizing the specificity of the profession.

The government has also undertaken to ensure that this protocol applied to the hospital public service is transposed to the private sector.

Regional midwives will benefit from the measure relating to the upgrading of index grids.

In addition, the agreement provides for the creation of a sixth year of training in midwifery, which will apply to the 2022-2023 promotion, and the reaffirmation of the specific role of midwives within health establishments.

For the ministry, this agreement is a

“substantial gesture”

, which represents an envelope of 100 million euros in 2022, likely to “

.

It partly responds to the demands of midwives, who have mobilized on several occasions.

Steadily increasing since 2012, the number of midwives stabilized at around 23,400 in 2021, according to Drees.

With constant behavior and legislation, by 2050, the density of midwives would increase by 27% compared to 2021.
