But back to the beginning: He can still remember the first book that the 32-year-old read himself: “Lord of the Rings” by JRR Tolkien.
He started with the mammoth work in first grade, but the reading adventure took a whole three years due to the complexity.
In retrospect, the reading of the father of “The Hobbit”, also by Tolkien, can confidently be viewed as a prelude to this rather idiosyncratic book request.
It is also Tolkien who laid the foundation for Vasold's love of fantasy literature, which has remained with him to this day.
His apartment is a huge library
But Joanne K. Rowling's “Harry Potter” series also fits in here: magical literature that repeatedly takes the educator into the adventures of other worlds. Vasold is also interested in other literary genres, such as historical novels. He is enthusiastic about stories like the “Hangman's Daughter” series by Oliver Pötzsch - also because they are well researched and depict a Bavaria of the time. When it comes to crime novels, the Freising singer likes to rely on the classic masterpieces by Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle. Vasold likes the Victorian era, and so it is not surprising that his apartment actually looks like a huge library with high stacks of books - with the homely charm of the literary Baker Street idyll of Sherlock Holmes.
Vasold devours 80 books every year
Around 1000 books have accumulated in the meantime, most of them are allowed to accompany him for a very long time. If Vasold doesn't like a book, he gives it away or puts it in a bookcase - but on principle not a single one is thrown away. The literature fan with a penchant for poetry reads around 80 books per year, and there are already around 60 novels on his pile of unread works. His passion also maps the world of literary classics per se - from Alexandre Dumas to Bram Stoker to Jule Verne. Of course, Andreas Vasold also collects different editions of books of the heart, such as various copies of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Since he has presented and discussed books on Instagram,He also receives numerous reading copies from publishers and authors. In Freising himself he supports the local book trade with his love of literature - he deliberately refrains from buying from the well-known online retailers.

What is also special on his Instagram account: Sometimes he publishes poems he has written himself there, which have now also found a fan base.
He might have some ideas for novels too, but writing your own stories is still a long way off at the moment.
Much closer to him, however, is his second affinity: the Middle Ages.
