Do you dream of discovering the Great Wall of China, climbing Mount Fuji or diving in the Great Barrier Reef?
We will have to wait a little longer.
Several diehards have been closed to tourism for over a year now, and most have not even announced a reopening date.
Reassured by the generalization of vaccination, many major destinations, such as the United States or India, nevertheless welcome international travelers again.
This is not the case for these countries, all located in Asia-Pacific.
Australia
Vaccinated nationals can reach their country without quarantine since November 1, but Australia remains completely closed to international tourism until further notice.
Bhutan
The arrival of tourists in the country is suspended until further notice, and air links are scarce.
China
The entry of foreign nationals holding visas or residence permits has been suspended since November 5, 2020 in this country where the pandemic has caused, according to Chinese authorities, 24 times fewer deaths than in France.
South Korea
Since July 23, 2021, the Korean authorities have resumed issuing certain types of visas.
But obtaining a short-stay visa (to
which the French are now subject, Editor's note
) must be justified by an overriding reason excluding, in fact, tourism.
Hong Kong
France being considered as a “high risk” country, only residents can join the territory.
Indonesia
Exemptions and issuances of tourist visas remain suspended with the exception of the island of Bali, accessible to tourists vaccinated since October 14, 2021.
Japan
The country reopened its borders on November 8 to certain categories of travelers, but tourists are not affected by this relaxation.
Malaysia
The country closed its borders to all foreign visitors on March 18, 2020, but the government of the archipelago has announced a reopening to international visitors on January 1 at the latest.
New Zealand
Like Australia, with which it shares its entry restrictions, New Zealand has not announced a date to reopen its borders to international tourism.
Vietnam
Foreign nationals are no longer accepted in Vietnam since March 22, 2020. Only the island of Phu Quoc reopened on November 20 to vaccinated travelers.
The government has also announced that it will allow tourists to return in December to Halong Bay, the cities of Hoi An, Dalat and Nha Trang.
