The vaccination for carers should come.
But there are still many unanswered questions for employers.
Doris Schneider, the manager of the Caritas nursing homes in Upper Bavaria, criticizes the mandatory vaccination.
"The discussion comes at the wrong time."
District
- After a year and a half of the corona pandemic, the geriatric nurses are at the end of their power.
“The employees are frustrated that the high number of infections is starting again.” Doris Schneider is very concerned that employees will quit.
“The mandatory vaccination could be the drop that brings the barrel to overflow,” she warns.
Recruiting new employees is difficult anyway.
Many questions are unanswered: "What about volunteer helpers and interns - do they have to be vaccinated?"
There is no uniform guideline
In addition to the “organizational madness”, Doris Schneider also takes a critical view of the time lag: the mandatory vaccination will only improve protection in the facilities in two months.
"What we really need is a uniform set of guidelines, we will get through the impending hard winter and more human resources."

Doris Schneider also wants more insight into vaccinations, but she considers the job-related vaccination obligation to be the wrong step.
“70 percent of the staff in all Caritas nursing homes in Upper Bavaria are vaccinated.
I don't think that's enough, ”says Schneider,“ I would like more. ”The requirement for mandatory vaccination in nursing also sounds very logical at first,“ but actually I don't think it's well thought out.
Why shouldn't there also be compulsory vaccinations for footballers? ”Schneider is convinced that job-related compulsory vaccination will ultimately harm the care industry.
Demand for clear laws
Bernd Meurer, President of the Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services and Managing Director of the nursing home in Unterföhring, calls for clear rules for mandatory vaccinations and a renewed bonus for carers.
"We need clear legal bases as to what employers are allowed to do and how they should enforce mandatory vaccination," emphasizes Meurer and warns: "A job-related mandatory vaccination will only have a manageable effect if visitors and relatives can continue to be unvaccinated."
Meurer demands that the booster vaccination should be accelerated at the same time and that the elderly and those in need of care should benefit first.
Meurer considers another care bonus for intensive care and elderly care to be overdue.
“Facilities and nursing staff are at their limit.” In addition to the thanks and respect, the bonus is a noticeable signal.
"We therefore expressly support the current proposals for tax exemptions for nursing staff."

A certain amount of skepticism remains
In the Unterföhring senior citizen center, almost all employees are vaccinated, reports Meurer, "except for one or two".
He suspects that most of the staff will accept the compulsory vaccination.
“The majority will say - well, we'll do it then.
You saw that in the summer when many wanted to travel again. ”But Meurer also remains somewhat skeptical:“ Now it's Covid.
A billion vaccinations have been administered and the experience has been positive.
People can be expected to be vaccinated.
But what's next? "
