The district's Corona emergency aid fund should continue to exist.

That has now been decided by the district council's social committee.

district

- The district of Munich had set up the emergency aid fund together with the welfare associations and neighborhood helpers, limited to the end of the year. The goal: to help people in need during the pandemic unbureaucratically. 42,924 euros were raised in donations by the end of October, 32,500 euros were passed on to charities, and 10,423 euros are still in the account. The donations were used, for example, to take on rent debts to prevent people from losing their homes, materials for homeschooling were purchased, dentures, glasses and hearing aids were financed. The Corona emergency aid fund should now continue to run under the same name for the time being, mainly because the pandemic is far from over. The district council will later decide whether to continue under a new name.Public relations are to be carried out by the charities.

Fast, unbureaucratic help

"With the Corona emergency aid fund, the social organizations were able to support many people who got into existential need as a result of the Corona crisis quickly and easily," says Andrea Betz, board member of Diakonie München und Oberbayern and spokeswoman for the welfare associations in the Munich district.

Many pandemic-related existential emergencies could now be covered by regular subsidies or foundation funds.

“However, our specialists are still in contact every day with people who have legitimate concerns about the future and livelihoods.

We therefore very much welcome the plans to continue the fund and convert it into an emergency aid fund.

Criticism of effort and income

Less enthusiastic tones came from District Councilor Ernst Weidenbusch (CSU).

Above all, he criticized the fact that the district had spent around 40,000 euros on advertising material and advertisements and so far only a good 30,000 had been given in aid.

"That doesn't sound very effective," said Weidenbusch.

District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) also admitted that he had hoped for higher donations.

Annette Ganssmüller-Maluche (SPD), on the other hand, emphasized that the fast, unbureaucratic nature of the aid is "worth gold".

In this sense it should now go on.
