The Mohebat Qalam Festival for Arabic Calligraphy and Decoration has devoted its second week to a group of young artists studying Arabic calligraphy.

The festival, which is organized by the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Association in cooperation with the Directorate of Culture of Damascus at the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, included an introductory session focused on two axes in the field of decorative arts, where the architectural consultant Luna Rajab spoke about the importance of botanical and engineering decoration in Islamic architecture with the formations of Arabic calligraphy to approach the The aesthetic and spiritual condition, reviewing the stages that Islamic decoration has gone through through the ages, and the materials in which they were used, with examples of them.

Plastic artist Reem Qabtan, president of the House of Arabic Calligraphy and Arts Association, addressed during the session the axis of decoration and gilding and their role in beautifying manuscripts and books, focusing on the types of these decorations and their diversity according to the cultures of the Islamic countries that used them, noting that the decoration was associated with the arts of Arabic calligraphy and had an aesthetic function for manuscripts as well as a process of controlling The text and its provisions from any forgery.

The festival also included an exhibition of works by young artists studying Arabic calligraphy embodied by more than 50 calligraphy paintings and calligraphy works in various techniques, styles and sizes.

The young calligrapher Hudhayfa Al-Ali participated in a painting in the Kufic and Diwani script, noting the role of the festival in helping young artists to introduce their work and increase their visual culture and see the works of great calligraphers in this field.

The artist Alaa Suwadani participated in five paintings in the Diwani and Al-Raqqa scripts, considering that her participation in the exhibition gave her an incentive to continue on the path of learning the arts of Arabic calligraphy, as it represents a spiritual engineering and is linked to our heritage and cultural identity, as she put it.

The participation of the young artist Asmaa Juma'a came with two paintings in Al-Raqqa and Al-Diwani script, and the artist Maysoon Kodmani with three paintings in the Diwani script, as she indicated that showing the work of young artists to the public helps them to develop their talents significantly.

It is noteworthy that the second week of the Mohebat Qalam Festival for the Arts of Arabic Calligraphy and Decoration will also include two workshops in Naskh calligraphy and the art of decoration and an exhibition of the production of the workshops at the festival next Thursday, in addition to holding a virtual exhibition on the association’s Facebook page next Saturday that includes the works of Syrian artists from inside Syria And abroad, in addition to the works of Arab artists and from many Islamic countries.
