They were a tight-knit team, worked hard and a lot, but also knew how to enjoy life and could entertain whole tables with their wit.

Now Winfried Scheckenhofer and his mother Maria from Baustarring (Kirchberg municipality) have died - both of Covid-19 just one day apart.

Baustarring

- "Da Wipp", as he was called by everyone, was a cattle dealer with body and soul, a "real Gwax", always in a good mood.

He understood his business and wanted to do justice to everyone, says his brother Hans.

“Live and let live was his motto.” As far as Munich and Buchloe, he mainly drove cattle, leaving the pigs to his brother, who was employed by him.

The Wipp had learned to be a butcher, was the first apprentice from Simeth in Wartenberg, with whom he was friends until the end and to whom he delivered animals every week.

There are many friends "whom we had to console when they found out"

The 55-year-old was 100 percent reliable, this was true for the customers as well as for family and friends.

He had many long-standing customers who became friends and "whom we had to console when they found out," says sister-in-law Christine.

He had a lot of fun with his dogs, most recently Igor, who was allowed to do everything with him.

In 1987 he founded his own company, and in 2001 he also took over his father's business.

The Wipp also ran its own small farm.

He enjoyed life - in the past he also made long-distance trips to South America, later he often went to South Tyrol with his friends from the Scharfen Eck.

Twice a week he was in the Bergcafé, his favorite pub in good company.

He played sheep's head passionately and was a big player in the woodland.

At the same time he was a family man, proud of the three children of his brother and great-grandson Jakob.

His nephew Johannes has lived with him for four years.

He should be his successor.

The mother and son were artificially ventilated in the intensive care unit for a week

Grandma Schecki came from Deutenhausen near Dachau.

She met her husband Johann in Holzhausen, where she supported her aunt at the age of 14 on the farm and in the house.

She married at the age of 20 and built up the business with her husband.

Customer contact was important to her right up until the end, and the 81-year-old still carried out the bills personally by car.

Then there was often a piece of advice or a cup of coffee, as she used to do monthly with her friends.

Maria fell ill with rheumatism at the age of 37, but bravely continued to work.

The disease took its toll, and for the past five years Caritas has come by three times a week to provide support.

She lost her husband Hans three years ago.

Wipp did not want to be vaccinated.

He had the first corona symptoms on October 23.

After All Saints' Day it got so bad that he was hospitalized with his mother, who had been vaccinated twice but did not have her booster, a day later.

Both were artificially ventilated in the intensive care unit for a week.

But in the end the doctors couldn't do anything for mother and son.

Both died.

Good thing they didn't know how bad things were for each other.

They are the Covid-19 victims number 128 and 129 in the Erding district since the pandemic began in March 2020. They have now claimed 129 deaths, most of them in the third wave in the spring of this year.

Scheckenhofer's beds in the intensive care unit?

Have long been occupied again.
