Not for adults only: Holon Cinematheque launched for children | Israel today

A 100-seat hall designed especially for children, a program that includes classic children's films alongside contemporary ones, and the option to make an appointment - why should only adults enjoy quality films?

In an age where children move between the TV screen and the cell phone screen, a new line arrives that offers them another screen, but much larger: a special children's cinematheque launched in Holon.

The Children's Cinematheque offers a cinema specially designed for the younger generation within the Meditech complex in Holon, and it contains 100 seats.

As part of it, classic and contemporary films intended for children will be screened, and in addition to the screenings, there will also be other activities, such as dubbing and animation workshops, conversations with creators and more.

"This idea was born because I actually grew up in the cinema. All I know about this life is from the cinema," says Alon Rosenblum, director of the Holon Cinematheque, who will also run the children's cinematheque.

"Unfortunately, today children do not know cinema. The goal of the Cinematheque is to instill a love of cinema from an early age. Not to assume that children can only watch Pixar and Disney films. "Their grandparents came, what are the films they grew up on. Our hope is that parents and children will come to the hall together and watch films like 'The Magic Princess', hoping it will be an experience that is both social, artistic and nostalgic."

It will be screened at the Cinematheque.

"ET a friend from another planet",

The Children's Cinematheque will open with 120th anniversary celebrations for Disney.

Among the films that will be screened: "The Jungle Book", "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Cinderella".

Films such as "ET Friend from Another Planet", "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" from 1971, "Billy Elliott" and more will also be screened.

"We will combine new films as well as classic films, some of which can be considered terribly boring today, but they are still classic films," says Rosenblum.

"The goal is to get kids used to things that are not just farce jokes. We suggest they slow down, watch things that are a little different, look at them at eye level. The Cinematheque will be open all week, not just on Saturdays, and we will screen a movie every day. On Saturdays. "There will be more than one film. The films are suitable for ages 13-5, and each age group will find the things that interest it. The cost of each film is NIS 25-22, and there is an option to subscribe."
