Saxony's hospitals are threatened with triage in the corona pandemic.

A doctor will soon see all of Germany in emergency mode.

Munich - Saxony has arrived in crisis mode in the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the State Medical Association President Erik Bodendieck, only a few intensive care beds were available in the Free State as of November 22nd.

So-called triage could already occur in the clinics at the end of the week.

Intensive care units in Germany: Due to Corona, triage is threatened in Saxony

"We have to triage, and I will discuss that again with my colleagues in the clinics this week," Bodendieck explained to the NDR.

According to the State Medical Association, there will then be more corona patients who need intensive medical treatment than there are intensive care beds available.

It could be that "we have to triage even in large clinics because we can no longer relocate," continued Bodendieck.

Even more: Another doctor sees all of Germany soon in an "emergency system" because of Corona, which affects the capacities of hospitals and clinics.

“If the development intensifies, it will probably be inevitable that we in large parts of Germany will have to convert the health system into a kind of emergency system.

And of course that has to be avoided ”, explained Gernot Marx of the“ Tagesschau ”of ARD - the chairman of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI).

Intensive care units in Germany: Doctors expect an "emergency system" across the country due to Corona

What that means?

Operations that are not urgently needed will be postponed, according to the ARD.

And: Personnel from other areas would have to be withdrawn from the clinics in order to medically treat the large number of corona patients.

To classify: As of Monday evening, November 22nd, according to the

DIVI intensive care

register

, there were

3,833 corona patients nationwide in German hospitals.

The corona situation was particularly serious next to Saxony in Bavaria.

The

DIVI

doctors are now also hoping for the effects of the coronavirus booster vaccinations.

In the video: State Medical Association - Have to prepare for Corona triage in Saxony

“If we didn't have the vaccinations, we would now - in terms of incidences - have astronomically high intensive occupancy rates.

You just have to see it that way, ”explained the doctor Steffen Weber-Carstens from the

DIVI

Intensive Register in the same ARD report.

Nevertheless, if the doctors have their way, the negative and sad climax in the intensive care units in the Federal Republic of Germany is far from having been reached.
