An industrial accident falling into a well at the Siu Ho Wan Sewage Treatment Plant last Thursday (18th) resulted in four workers having one death and three injuries. Among them, the 46-year-old female deceased Wang Ximei and the 60-year-old male injured Li Jinhua were married.
Nearly 9 am today (22nd), Wang Ximei's daughter has rushed back to Hong Kong from the Mainland, accompanied by her relatives and friends to the public mortuary in Kwai Chung to admit her body. Her daughter looked sad, and her relatives and friends were comforting her.

At about 4 pm last Thursday, the police received a report that four workers were trapped in a manhole about 8 meters deep. Firefighters arrived at the scene and found a 46-year-old female worker Wang Ximei protruding from the bottom of the well with sewage about 0.5 meters deep. The other three men were injured. They are trapped 6 meters deep from the working platform underground.
Firefighters rescued all the 4 wounded after more than an hour and were sent to 3 hospitals by ambulancemen. Among them, Wang Ximei was certified dead after being sent to the hospital.
The other three injured were Wang’s 60-year-old husband Li Jinhua, and a 59-year-old and 51-year-old male worker. As of last night, the conditions of the three were critical, severe and stable.
The Chief of the Fire Services Department, Zhong Daofeng, said at a press conference on the day of the accident that three of the workers were performing pipe replacement works in the well, and no injured were seen wearing seat belts when they arrived.
In response to the incident the next day, the Director of Drainage Services stated that the Department has appointed a deputy director to supervise the independent investigation team, send personnel to search for evidence, and cooperate with the Department of Labor and the police to find the cause of the accident.
