The vaccination campaign for children aged 11-5 will officially start tomorrow (Tuesday), after the Ministry of Health approved the use of these ages and thousands of parents have made an appointment for a vaccine against Corona.

Galia Kono, a nurse in charge of nursing services in Jerusalem, was among the first to enroll her six- and ten-year-old children for the vaccine.

This, after reading many articles on the subject in Hebrew and English, is a "completely informed decision," she says.

"I understand the importance of protecting the vaccine against the disease and the consequences of the disease," she said when asked why she decided to get vaccinated.

"I understand that the only solution right now is to give them a vaccine and I believe in that."

Why vaccinate and is it dangerous?

Were there any concerns, dilemmas?

"I believe that every mother in Israel or in the world who is currently facing a decision whether to give a vaccine that has developed quite quickly, is a little apprehensive of its consequences, how it can have long-term effects. But I have read enough studies and seen many lectures, heard doctors and experts .

She said, "I have seen how much more important it is to vaccinate children and prevent the disease than to take the risk of long-term consequences if any."

Galia added that she had read the studies done overseas and the FDA's recommendations. "I also read about the mechanism and how it works, and what it does to understand exactly what I am going to give my children."

Did you ask the children their opinion about the vaccine?

"I did not ask so much. I think at this stage these parents who have to make this decision, do not think they understand enough about vaccines to exercise any discretion. But I know my children do want to get vaccinated, they are very excited, they understand why the vaccine is needed, "They understand, they have already gone through enough isolations and closures, and their older sister has already been vaccinated. The whole family is vaccinated, they love to fly and also understand that now with the vaccination their lives will change."

Are they waiting for it?

"They are very much looking forward to it, they are excited, and they have already asked me a lot of questions. They have heard about the vaccines in the news as well, and they do want to get vaccinated."

It was hard to find parents who had already signed up for the vaccine tomorrow, what reactions did you get from other parents?

"I do not have many friends with children at these ages, so I can say for sure. I have sisters since we treated them. Most of the people I know say they did treat their children."

According to Kono, "We live in Tzur Hadassah, which only yesterday was in the news with a new outbreak in the locality. There is no doubt that the need to avoid future isolations was also one of the considerations. "Isolation, and how much I can put the child at home in front of the zoom or in front of the TV. There is no doubt that the need for a continuous degree is also a consideration here. But the main consideration is of course the children's health and fear of illness. Not the isolation."
