Three other people were injured in the attack.
Published yesterday in Walla!
Because Hanan, Eli's younger brother, was forced to travel to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, where he was hospitalized by public transportation, and did not receive a customized ride or escort from the IDF.
Following the incident, MK Moshe Arbel (Shas) wrote a letter to Defense Minister Bnei Gantz: "Eli's brother, Hanan Kay, who serves at the Nahal Brigade base, was updated on the attack and his brother's serious injury while he was at the base," Arbel wrote.
"Hanan was transported from the base to nearby Arad in a military vehicle and Arad was required to arrive independently at Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital in Jerusalem. While on the bus, Hanan was informed of his brother's death."

"It is not possible for a soldier, brother or relative of a person who was seriously injured in the attack to be required to arrive independently at the hospital in the first minutes and hours after the attack, as each minute may determine where he will hear the bitter news or be given a last chance to say goodbye."
Arbel went on to say that "this is a very serious mistake at the discretion of the commanders which expresses blatant disregard for the pain of the bereaved families and the wounded families. Needless to say the decision was wrong and offensive even if the tragic event did not lead to Eli's death." As a result of an attack, the soldiers' commanders must make sure that he is given a direct ride to the hospital and, if necessary, involve their commanders in order to guarantee this. "
Arbel wrote that he requested that an investigation be carried out at the Nahal base and Hanan's unit, why he was required to arrive independently from Arad at the hospital in Jerusalem and procedures would be refined among army commanders so that such a difficult incident would not recur.

An IDF spokesman said yesterday: "The IDF regrets the incident and will continue to accompany and support the soldier and his family. "He did not receive a ride to Jerusalem. The base commander made a clarifying call to the commander, talked to the fighter and expressed his condolences. We are sorry for the mental anguish."
Eli, 26, was shot dead near the Temple Mount on the way to his workplace, in an attack in which three other people were injured.
He was taken to hospital with a severe head injury during resuscitation operations, where he was pronounced dead.
Eli loved the country, all he wanted was to serve the State of Israel, "the family mourned.
