Homs-Sana
In the centers of Al-Hawash and Ain Al-Tineh Al-Gharbiyye in the Homs countryside, operations began to receive the tobacco crop of the Burlei variety from farmers in the governorate.
Engineer Ayman Qara Falah, Director of Agriculture and Scientific Research at the General Tobacco Corporation and Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Purchase of Tobacco, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the area planted with the Burley type of tobacco within the work of the Marmarita Division in the western countryside of Homs is about 5100 dunums, with an average total production of about 15,000 parcels. He explained that production during the current year is low compared to last year, whether in terms of quantity or quality due to drought and the lack of rain during the season. Last year, about 27 thousand parcels were received.
Falah pointed out that the receipt of the tobacco crop from the farmers of the western countryside of Homs was initiated through the formation of two receiving committees in the towns of Al-Hawash and Ain Al-Tineh Al-Gharbiyye, because they are a gathering center for several villages, which reduces the burdens on farmers, indicating that the committees are composed of an expert, a treasurer, Wazzan and an auditor, where the receipt is from farmers and transport Through the cars of the Tobacco Corporation to its stores, pointing out that any farmer who objects to the record of receiving his crop, a committee is formed within 24 hours to re-examine the crop.
Falah explained that the Corporation provided most of the production requirements of fertilizers, medicines and nylon as credit on the crop without interest, in addition to providing packages for free, pointing out that at the end of each season, production costs are studied through a committee that includes representatives of the Farmers Union and the Ministry of Agriculture, and then the price is issued through the Economic Committee .
A number of farmers pointed to a decrease in the production of this year compared to last year due to the high production costs, especially fertilizers, which affected the support of the crop during the planting season, calling for the need to support this cultivation and that the prices be commensurate with the production costs.
