Tuen Mun crossing the sea line exposure? Tian Beichen: Strive for Sansheng and Gold Coast to set up railway stations to help transfers

The Government’s 2018 Policy Address proposed the "Lantau Tomorrow" plan, which mentioned that it would study the construction of a new major transportation corridor to connect the coastal areas of Tuen Mun, North Lantau, the artificial islands in the central waters and the traditional businesses in the north of Hong Kong Island by roads and railways. The center is the new cross-sea railway.

Tian Beichen, a member of the Legislative Council who has signed up for direct elections in the Northwest New Territories, stated in an online video today (22nd) that the route of the railway will start from the river trade terminal on the west side of the Tuen Mun Pier to the future Tuen Mun South Extension Line. From South Station, cross the sea via Xiaolan to Sunny Bay, the artificial island, and finally to the west of Hong Kong Island.

He expressed that he hoped that the railway could serve more residents, and he was striving to add Sansheng and Gold Coast stations between Tuen Mun South Station and Siu Lam. I believe that many nearby residents could transfer to the railway to cross the sea at this location.

When drawing up the vision for Lantau Tomorrow, the government mentioned that the Tuen Mun Railway will connect Kau Yi Chau to the western part of Hong Kong Island (the blue solid line is the proposed railway).

The "Lantau Tomorrow" project will build major arterial roads and railways connecting the north Lantau Island, artificial islands and the west of Hong Kong Island from the coast of Tuen Mun. Some of them will reuse the coastal routes from Tuen Mun to Tsuen Wan that have been studied. There was no specific disclosure, and even the "Strategic Study on Railways Transcending 2030" did not provide details when seeking funding from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council in July last year. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Chen Fan, stated on his blog last month, The "Strategic Study on Railways and Major Arterial Roads Transcending 2030" is currently underway and will explore the layout of the territory-wide railway and major arterial infrastructure.

Tian Beichen uploaded a short election advertisement on Facebook, stating that once the fifth cross-sea railway joins his striving for Sansheng and the Gold Coast, the whole route will be "Inland River Terminal> Tuen Mun South Station> Sansheng> Gold Coast> Xiaolan" ＞Sunny Bay＞Artificial Island＞Hong Kong Island West".

He pointed out that although the cost of constructing railway stations is high, if there are few railway stations and it is troublesome to change trains, workers will eventually choose to drive or take buses, which will not help solve the problem of road traffic congestion.

He believes that the two stations won will be convenient for many people to walk or take a village bus to cross the sea by railway. He believes that the two stations will bring a new situation to the northwestern New Territories.

Other candidates in the Northwest New Territories include the DAB Zhou Hao Ting and the new thinking Huang Junlang.
