The bill that allows the marriage of same-sex couples in Chile was approved this Tuesday by the Chamber of Deputies and sent to the Senate.
The initiative introduces modifications to the Civil Code, the Labor Code and the laws on the adoption of minors.
It also recognizes and protects the right to gender identity.
It was approved by 101 votes in favor, 30 against and 2 abstentions.
The initiative must return to the Senate since it had a series of modifications in the Lower House.
If approved in the Senate, the law will take effect ninety days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
