The “Bürger-Energie Unterhaching” (BEU) cooperative is expanding its portfolio and is now a co-partner of Hy2B Hydrogen GmbH in Pfeffenhausen near Landshut.
Unterhaching
- "With its participation in the production and distribution of green hydrogen in Bavaria, the BEU continues to contribute to counteracting climate change," explains Eva-Maria Markert, who is responsible for public relations on the BEU board, in a press release.
Four other shareholders
In addition to BEU, four other shareholders have joined the hydrogen company from the Landshut district: Bürgerenergie Isar eG and BürgerEnergie Niederbayern eG as well as industrial partners BayWa AG and Tyczka Hydrogen, an industrial gas specialist from Geretsried. The capital and the competence of the five new shareholders enable Hy2B GmbH to get started soon. From 2023, green hydrogen is to be generated from renewable energies in (Lower) Bavaria. This will mainly be used as fuel for buses in local public transport, but will also be sold to third-party customers.
From Pfeffenhausen, the green hydrogen is delivered to filling stations within a radius of up to 200 kilometers.
The electrolyser will produce 400 to 700 tons of green hydrogen annually, saving around 4500 tons of CO2.
From 2023, local buses throughout Bavaria will also run on green hydrogen from Pfeffenhausen.
Profit and voting rights
Why is Bürger-Energie Unterhaching involved in Landshut, of all places? Wolfgang Geisinger, CEO of BEU, explains the investment: “With HY2B participation, BEU offers its members real participation in the energy transition, with profit and voting rights. We are enthusiastic about the new business area hydrogen, which is why we are looking forward to broadening our range of activities as an energy cooperative in this sector with great enthusiasm. "In our opinion, the production of green, storable hydrogen is an important step towards achieving the climate goals." The BEU is "proud to be part of the HyPerformer model region Bavaria".Hydrogen is being used to force the coupling of the energy sectors, for example electricity to mobility, but also electricity for process heat in industry.
The founders of Hy2B Hydrogen GmbH, Christiane Heyer and Tobias Brunner, are happy about the new partnerships: "With this model project we are giving an important impetus for the energy and transport transition that brings us closer to the goal of a climate-preserving, sustainable world."
