Because of the rapidly increasing corona numbers, there is a crisis meeting in the Chancellery: According to SPIEGEL information, Angela Merkel and the leaders of the traffic light parties are advising on further measures to combat the pandemic.
The background to this is that the debate about compulsory health and safety is gaining momentum.
Merkel and numerous other top politicians have excluded them in the past;
some like the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) or Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) have now changed their minds.
Hesse's Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (CDU) also spoke out in favor.
On the other hand, Chancellor Helge Braun was just as skeptical as Health Minister Jens Spahn (both CDU).
The traffic light parties want to conclude their coalition negotiations this week and already elect Olaf Scholz (SPD) as Chancellor in St. Nicholas Week.
However, the development of the corona situation no longer leaves any scope for delays - this is another reason why the executive and designated federal government are now forced to discuss the next steps together.
