The president of this overseas territory, in the grip of violent riots, considers the situation "unacceptable".

The last Minister of the Interior that we saw in Guadeloupe was Bernard Cazeneuve.

Ary Chalus, widely re-elected this year at the head of the regional council of Guadeloupe, does not mince words towards the government, in an interview given to RTL.

This former deputy, who in 2017 was part of the executive committee of La République en Marche, today accuses the state of not treating Guadeloupe "

in the same way as a region of France

".

Ary Chalus explains having "

alerted the government a lot

", but not having "

been heard

", a situation that he considers "

unacceptable

".

I say it loud and clear: Guadeloupe is the only department, the only French overseas region, which had put forward President Emmanuel Macron.

Today, this is how we are treated, and I deplore it

”, also added the president of the region.

"

We have not seen any minister move to Guadeloupe

", underlines Ary Chalus.

The Minister of Overseas, Sébastien Lecornu, was nevertheless present on the archipelago in August.

Following the rise in violence in the face of compulsory vaccination for caregivers, many pressures are emerging for the Minister of Overseas France to go to Guadeloupe. However, he felt that this trip could present a "

particularly significant overhead for the police

".

However, not completely excluding going there to deal with the crisis, Sébastien Lecornu believes that his presence is not requested.

"

Ask the political parties, the local elected officials, the mayors, the parliamentarians, they do not ask for a trip from the minister in the minute,

" he said.

An assertion however rejected by Ary Chalus, who asks "

that the State take its responsibilities

", and that an interministerial delegation goes there in order to "be

able to calm things down

".
