The anger towards the unvaccinated is growing for many with the increasing number of infections.

But some have good reasons not to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Bad Tölz

- Stefan Wigand (name changed) is open about his decision. He's not vaccinated - and it will stay that way for the time being. In contrast to many other unvaccinated people, he would like to be better protected against the coronavirus. However, the 35-year-old from the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district suffers from the autoimmune disease thrombocytopenia. His body does not make enough platelets. “When I'm sick, my blood is as thin as water,” he explains. He was already in the hospital as an emergency once because of this. He has often explained his clinical picture in the past few weeks. Because he does not want to be taken for a vaccine opponent. He is not. The decision against the vaccination was difficult for him, he reports. "It was a risk assessment."

Corona in Bavaria: Not all of them voluntarily unvaccinated - one person affected tells

Even his family doctor could not tell him how great the risks of the vaccination would be with his disease. So Wigand wrote to the University Hospital in Salzburg. "Unfortunately, only a standard letter came back," he reports. Of course, Wigand is also afraid of an infection - nobody knows how difficult it would be for him. That is why he lives much more isolated than before the pandemic. “I haven't been to a restaurant in a long time,” he says. The 35-year-old lives alone. So far, however, he has not had to switch to the home office. He has an individual office and tests himself regularly - even before it was compulsory. He works in a small team with a very family atmosphere, he says. That is why it was easy for him to speak openly with his colleagues about his illness. But he can well imaginethat what is involuntarily unvaccinated for others is a greater overcoming. “The fear of being at a disadvantage professionally as a result remains, of course,” he says. For example, he has not yet mentioned his illness to his superiors. "Of course, I think about how you will accept the fact that I am not vaccinated."

Involuntarily unvaccinated: One from Bad Tölz has to endure hostility

Stefan Wigand knows that by now at the latest he has to constantly explain, if not even justify, for it.

He feels that the unvaccinated people are growing more frustrated every month.

“But there is simply more than just black and white,” he emphasizes.

People with similarly rare diseases are now in a difficult position.

His concern that the mood will continue to boil is great.

The fear of infection is a constant companion for me.

However, his fear of infection is also great.

And not just since the number of infections has increased so dramatically.

“She is a constant companion,” he says.

He's not afraid of isolation, but he has great respect.

His last winter was not easy.

It was clear to Wigand that the unvaccinated would face a tough lockdown this winter.

He is fortunate that he has good friends who know about his illness and do not want to exclude him, he reports.

That's why they meet with him privately instead of in restaurants or bars.

And that with a self-test.

Lately, Stefan Wigand has often asked himself what it must be like for people who do not find it so easy to disclose their illness to colleagues or friends.

He can because there is a lot of trust - but he doesn't want to use his real name to tell his story in the newspaper either.

His illness was always something very private.

It would be easier if he had a certificate showing how risky vaccination would be for him.

But he didn't - no doctor can tell him how great the vaccination risk would be with his illness.

He would like that unvaccinated people with a well-founded fear of being vaccinated are not equated with those who oppose the vaccination.
