About forty families lived on abandoned land in the La Borde district. The city demanded the dismantling of this camp

They left their makeshift huts peacefully.

As in Issou last summer, around forty families from the Roma community were evicted from their camp this Tuesday afternoon by the police in Montesson (Yvelines).

Since June, they had occupied a parcel of disused land in the district of La Borde, on the edge of the neighboring town of Sartrouville.

Several dozen police officers and municipal police officers from the two municipalities took part in this operation, which began at 2:30 p.m., after the intervention of Enedis agents, who came to cut the power supply to what had become a veritable shanty town over the years. months.

Unsanitary conditions and safety issues

"It is totally unsanitary and there are many security problems", indicates the mayor (DVD) Nicole Bristol, also present on the scene. The elected had asked for the use of the police last September after having taken an imminent peril "for risk of electrocution and fire", request reiterated in recent weeks in view of a new decree "motivated by a bailiff's report, the firefighters' report and by a social diagnosis established by an association ”. The Ile de France public land establishment (Epfif), owner of the land, has for its part filed a complaint for illegal occupation.

While congratulating herself "on the smooth running of the operation", Nicole Bristol believes that "it was time" for this camp to be evacuated.

“Especially for residents,” she emphasizes.

Some have been vandalized or broken into.

They couldn't take it anymore ”.

Some of the occupants of the camp had already left the scene in anticipation of the evacuation.

Others - about twenty people - accepted the rehousing proposal made by the state services.

A bus was made available to transport these families to temporary accommodation.
