Musician John Batiste leads in the number of nominations for Billy Aylish and Justin Bieber • Daddy band stars again • And singer Olivia Rodrigo competes in seven categories


Grammy Surprise: Justin Bieber, Billy Aylish and Olivia Rodrigo are among the leaders in the list of nominees for the 64th Grammy Awards, the most prestigious award for the music industry.

But musician John Batiste won the largest number of nominations with 11 in total.

Bieber is nominated in eight categories thanks to his sixth album "Justice" and the hit from it "Peaches" and is included in the three most important categories of the ceremony, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Singer Olivia Rodrigo, 18, who is considered one of the biggest breakthroughs of the past year, is nominated in seven overall categories for the new artist and for her hit "drivers license".

Billy Aylish, who two years ago made history as the youngest winner in history and the first woman to win all four important categories at the ceremony, is also nominated in seven nominations for her second album "Happier Than Ever".

In the album of the year category, Bieber, Elish and Rodrigo are nominated in front of the second duet album of Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, Kenya West, Taylor Swift, the provocative rapper Lil Nas X, the rapper Doge Kat, the R&B singer HER and the neo-soul musician John Baptist.

Batiste is also known to American viewers as the leader of the house band on Stephen Colbert's Light Night program.

In the recording category of the year, Batiste will once again face Bieber, Aylish, Rodrigo, Lady Gaga and Bennett, Lil Nas X and Doge Kat, as well as Silk Sonic (Bruno March's new band), folk singer Brandy Carlyle and Abba with their comeback single "I Still Have Faith in You ".

This is a single from the first original album in 40 years released in early November.

Meanwhile, rapper Jay-Z has garnered three nominations for his collaborations on albums by Kenya West and the late rapper DMX, becoming the most nominated artist in Grammy history with 83 career nominations.

Over the years, Jay-Z has won 23 Grammy Awards.

In second place is Paul McCartney, who along with his two recent nominations in the rock categories stands at a total of 81 nominations throughout his career.

Other nominees include Ariana Grande with three nominations, including two in the pop categories on the album "Positions", and Ed Sheeran with one nomination but in the important category of song of the year on "Bad Habits".

Former President Barack Obama, who is nominated in the album category for recording his book "Promised Land."

By the way, Obama already won a Grammy in 2008 when he ran for president of the United States.

It is important to note that according to the bylaws the official eligibility period to be tested for nominations ended at the end of September so new and talked about albums like those of Ed Sheeran, Adele and Lena Del Rey were not included this year and will enter the next round ahead of the 2023 Grammy.

In addition, in the past year the American Academy of Recording Sciences and Arts has undergone organizational reforms and among other things expanded the number of candidates in the main categories in the ceremony to ten in total.

The 2022 Grammys will be held in Los Angeles on January 31st.
