The Libyan Coast Guard announced the rescue of 235 illegal immigrants of different African nationalities who were on board three rickety boats off the Libyan coast on the Mediterranean.
And the media quoted the coast guard as saying in a statement today that it handed over the migrants to the competent authorities in the city of Al-Zawiya, noting that the rescue operation comes before the completion of the procedures for deporting these migrants to their countries.
According to statistics from international organizations, 1,235 people died or went missing while trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe this year, bringing the number of victims to 23,000 people since 2014.
