Justice Minister Gideon Saar announced the decision regarding the disputes that also exist within the right wing of the committee, where apart from Saar are Minister Shaked and MK Rotman.

The chairman of the Judicial Selection Committee, Justice Minister Gideon Saar, announced today (Tuesday) that the committee meeting scheduled for the afternoon in favor of electing judges to the Supreme Court has been postponed.

A source in the committee told Israel Today that, contrary to various reports, the right-wing bloc in the committee, which includes Saar, Shaked and Rotman, is coordinated and insists on choosing two conservative judges from the four vacant seats.

In the absence of agreement with the Supreme Court justices and the Bar Association on the identities of the two liberals and the two conservatives, the hearing is adjourned.

Minister Saar: "Despite many efforts made to formulate an agreement to elect judges in accordance with the requirement of the law - this has not succeeded for the time being. "Compromises and on the other hand - a choice that will reflect the striving for diversity and balance in the composition of the Supreme Court. This responsibility can not be realized by the concept of 'choice at any cost'. I hope we can reach the required understandings and agreements soon."

Minister Shaked: "A deal that will not be good - will not be. The Minister of Justice did well to postpone the discussion in the committee."

The candidates in dispute

Committee members - Minister Saar (New Hope), Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked (right) and MK Simcha Rotman (Religious Zionism) - are expected to support conservative judges who are politically affiliated with the right.

In order for a Supreme Court judge to be elected, he must win the support of seven of the nine members of the committee, so this requires agreements between its members.

Conservative and activist camps usually agree on candidates who are not considered a "red sheet" in exchange for the other camp's consent to their own candidates.

The judging panel prefers Yigal Marzel, Ruth Ronen and Khaled Kabov, all of whom are "red sheets" for the right.

Of the three, Kaboub is more likely to compromise, as he occupies the slot of the Arab judge after the retirement of retired judge George Kara.

The Bar Association is pushing for the election of at least one lawyer.
