The Israeli drama series "Tehran" by Khan 11 won the award for best drama series at the International Emmy Awards.

This is an unprecedented achievement for an Israeli original drama at the annual ceremony held by the Academy of Television for series from around the world.

"Tehran" won series from India, Chile and England in the drama category.

In the past, the best comedy series "Ramzor" (2010) and "Nevso" (2018) won the category, and two years ago she was also nominated for a "main box office" that did not win.

The suspense and action drama starring Niv Sultan, which originally aired in Israel in the summer of 2020 and also aired a year ago on the streaming service Apple TV Plus, takes place in the Iranian capital, as part of the Mossad's secret mission ahead of a planned Israeli Air Force attack on nuclear facilities.

At the center of the plot is a young Mossad agent named Tamar Rabinian (Sultan), a hacker of Persian descent and a speaker of the language who exchanges identities with an Iranian citizen who is smuggled out of the country, and soon finds herself embroiled in life circumstances.

The creators of the series are Moshe Zonder, Maor Cohen and Dana Eden, and alongside Sultan, it also stars Liraz Cherki, Menashe Noy and the Iranian-American actors Sean Taub and Navid Naghaven.

In January 2021, Apple TV Plus officially announced that the series will return for a second season, which is being filmed these days and will be joined by Hollywood star Glenn Close.

Alon Arnia, who is one of the producers of the series and also a partner in recent years in other American television adaptations of Israeli series such as "Hostages" and "His Honor", said in response to "Israel Today": "I am very excited, this is the first Israeli drama to win my mother! Tehran and respect for the State of Israel. Great pride for all of us! "

The second season of the series is currently being filmed, in which Hollywood star Glenn Close will also take part.
