The Unterpfaffenhofen fire brigade has put two new emergency fire-fighting vehicles (HLF), as they are officially called, into service. The cars, which cost around 400,000 euros each, replace an outdated HLF and a fire fighting group vehicle that had to be sorted out four years ago.

The Unterpfaffenhofen fire brigade has put two new emergency fire-fighting vehicles (HLF), as they are officially called, into service.

- At normal times, the presentation and commissioning of the two new vehicles would be an occasion for a small celebration. This was also planned a week ago. But the exploding Covid numbers have ruined the plans of the Unterpfaffenhofen volunteer fire brigade: "That is simply not possible at the moment," explained Thomas Schlierf right at the beginning. In addition to Second Mayor Manuela Kreuzmair, Fire Brigade Advisor Rudolf Widmann, Oliver Simon (CSU), Agnes Dürr (Greens) and Franz Hörmannsdorfer (FW), the Deputy Head of Legal Office Jochen Franz accepted the invitation.

Commander Christian Ruder thanked the city, which, in addition to the Free State, took over most of the financing.

Mayor Kreuzmair thanked the rescuers who go out on around 250 missions every year.

She officially handed the fire engines over to their destination with a “Good trip from all sides”.

Fire department officer Rudolf Widmann confessed that he had already assessed the new additions to the vehicle fleet in advance. He therefore also knows that the Garmisch-Partenkirchen fire brigade asked their colleagues more about the sophisticated inner workings of the vehicles. Obviously the rescuers from Unterpfaffenhofen accommodated more things when equipping the special trucks than is generally considered possible. Equipment attendant Maximilian Maurer, who was significantly involved, confirmed this: "We just tinkered around until everything finally found space that we imagined."

During the detailed demonstration of the two vehicles, Maurer explained that one of the vehicles is primarily designed for technical assistance, while the second is intended to be deployed primarily in the event of a fire. A brief demonstration showed that it is very well equipped for this: within a few minutes, a water cannon was installed on the roof of the HLF and launched a fountain of up to 50 meters. The device is fed from an integrated tank that holds 2500 liters of extinguishing water.

Both fire engines are equipped with the latest technology such as LED headlights, digital radio and gas detection devices.

The equipment for securing accident sites, fall protection and the standardized extinguishing structure is available on both vehicles.

Many details also ensure more safety in the emergency service and make it possible to provide help quickly in any situation.
