The gym turns into a meeting room

The conference room in Althegenberg's town hall needs to be expanded - that has been certain for a long time.

Now the local council has unanimously decided how the room will be enlarged.

Althegnenberg -

Even before the 2020 local elections, it was clear that the previous hall would no longer be sufficient in the future. Because Althegnenberg cracked the 2000 inhabitant mark. This increased the number of community council members from twelve to 14. But the conference room has not been meeting since May 2020 anyway. Due to the corona pandemic, the local council once went to the gym, was then at home in the multi-purpose room and recently in the parish hall.

Now a solution is emerging: Because right next to the meeting room is the so-called exercise room, which the kindergarten group housed in the town hall uses for gymnastics.

However, this is not required at all for a one-group kindergarten and is not included in the leasing contract.

Mayor Rainer Spicker (BI) now reported to the local council that this was determined after consulting the Catholic church administration.

The kindergarten supervision in the district office has also confirmed that the kindergarten, which is at home on the upper floor of the building, has enough space.

The freedom of movement can therefore be dispensed with.

"We would also like to keep the room for the kindergarten, but the conference room is simply too small," explained the town hall chief.

There is a thin partition between the two rooms that needs to be removed.

After that, the meeting room would be around 70 square meters and would offer enough space for the local council and the audience.

The renovation would cost 40,000 euros, the budget has already been set for 50,000 euros this year.

However, it is questionable whether the go-ahead will be given this year.

With the renovation, access to the town hall can finally be made barrier-free.

A further 20,000 euros will probably be charged for the ramp and corresponding doors.

The conversion of the toilets next to the exercise room into a barrier-free toilet is already planned.

"We should definitely do that right away, because if we did, then it was smart," said Norbert Scholz (CSU).

A double use with a mobile partition, as asked by Marianne Dunkel (SPD), would cost a further 10,000 euros.

“That doesn't help either, then you always have to remodel, and a space for movement also needs to be designed differently from a meeting room,” said Spicker.

The committee voted unanimously for the renovation and also for barrier-free access.

This is not to be implemented at a later point in time, as originally planned, but at the same time as the renovation work.
