Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton decided to disqualify a French textbook called "Se and Bain" after parents complained that a Palestinian flag appeared on it.
If the flag is dropped from the book it will be able to undergo a re-examination for approval.
This is a booklet from 2020 in which the flags of the countries of the world appear, including the flag of Palestine.
The booklet is taught to 1,000 middle school students and is an elective book out of six elective books approved by the Ministry of Education.
In 1967, after the Six Day War, the State of Israel banned the hoisting of the Palestinian flag, which also served as a PLO flag, which was defined as a terrorist organization in its territories and in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
As you may recall, this is not the first time that textbooks have caused a stir, claiming that they present distorted details or incitement and portrayal of IDF soldiers as criminals - especially in books published in East Jerusalem.
In the past, even the pedagogical secretariat of the Ministry of Education rejected a recommendation to teach the book "Hedge" by Dorit Rabinian, after it featured an affair between a Jew and a Palestinian.
One of the reasons for the rejection was that "in adolescence there is no systemic vision that includes considerations of preserving the identity of the people and the meaning of assimilation."
