The case of a second patient whose body appears to have rid itself of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS, without medical intervention or drugs, is an exception that is currently the focus of a very promising study.
One of the authors of the research, Dr. Gabriela Turk, explains that it cannot be said that the patient is 100% free of the disease, but it is "very close".
